Ten Lift Replacements for a National Care Home Operator

Lancs & Cumbria Lifts coordinated ten replacement lift installations across care homes in the North of England, acting as principal contractor and principal designer.

THE BRIEF

One Programme Across Ten Operational Care Homes

Following a competitive tender, Lancs & Cumbria Lifts was appointed to remove the existing lifts and deliver ten new installations for a national care home operator.

The sites were spread across the North of England and the projects needed to progress at the same time. That made planning, site logistics and communication as important as the lift engineering itself.

Each location had its own access, welfare and waste-management requirements, while the overall programme needed consistent project control.

Project Scope

  • Pre-start meeting at every site
  • Site setup, containers, skips and welfare
  • Removal and disposal of existing lifts
  • Ten new lift installations
  • Testing and consultant sign-off
  • O&M manuals and CDM close-out
  • One-year warranty and service plan

PRE-START PLANNING

Preparing Every Site Before Work Began

Pre-start meetings were held at each care home to gather the individual site requirements and agree how the installation would be organised.

The team established suitable positions for hired storage containers, waste skips and welfare facilities, alongside access and working-area requirements. Planning these details in advance helped each site enter the programme with a defined setup.

The scope also covered removal and disposal of the existing lifts before the replacement equipment was installed.

DELIVERY APPROACH

From Site Preparation to Documented Handover

The work was managed as one programme while respecting the practical requirements of each individual care home.

01

Confirm Each Site

Pre-start meetings established access, working areas, storage, skips, welfare and site-specific requirements.

02

Remove Existing Lifts

The existing equipment was taken out and disposed of as part of the agreed installation scope.

03

Install & Coordinate

Mechanical and electrical packages were installed while the wider multi-site programme was centrally controlled.

04

Test & Hand Over

Completed lifts were tested, reviewed by the client’s lift consultant and handed over with the required documentation.

TECHNICAL PACKAGE

Mechanical and Control Equipment Selected for the Programme

The lift packages combined Wittur mechanical equipment with Lester electrical control systems. Some sites required replacement solutions for existing KONE MonoSpace machine-room-less lifts.

The photographs show the installed shaft equipment, controls and completed lift finishes across the programme. Individual arrangements varied by site and existing lift configuration.

TESTING & HANDOVER

Independent Review and a Complete Handover Package

On completion, the lifts were tested to BS 8486-3:2017 and signed off by the care home operator’s appointed lift consultant.

Operation and maintenance manuals were transferred to the client’s compliance lead. A full CDM review was also carried out by the lift consultant to close the programme with the relevant project information in place.

Every lift included a one-year warranty and a one-year service plan, providing a clear route from installation into ongoing support.
